If you have not read Start With Why by Simon Sinek, I highly recommend it! We all do things for a reason, and we all have a purpose in life. Knowing what that purpose is and embracing it is the key to a successful life…in my humble opinion.
So, let’s start the year off by answering this fundamental question… WHY did I agree to play baseball for 80+ hours over the upcoming Memorial Day Weekend? Was it because my calendar was open and I’m a fan of the game? Not exactly!
St. Louis Children’s Hospital was hoping to fund a MIBG therapy center here in St. Louis. The MIBG therapy is a highly concentrated and highly focused radiation treatment that helps children fight rare forms of cancer. There are only 13 hospitals around the country that can provide this therapy, so local kids in the region currently have to travel to Chicago, Nashville, or Denver to receive treatments. This is not easy for families with sick kids!
Constructing a MIBG therapy center is not cheap. The price tag is well over $1 Million dollars. However, the commitment made by the World Record Baseball Game was the funding catalyst that set the project in motion. With those dollars committed, the hospital was able to secure additional funding and start the construction of the project. Bringing this type of therapy treatment to our region will have a HUGE impact on the families and children fighting cancer. In fact, there is already a list of kids waiting for the completion of the MIBG center here in St. Louis, so they can receive treatment.
So WHY? The short answer is, because I believe it is my job to help others. It may not be my day job, but it is part of my purpose in life. Don’t get me wrong… I have a great day job. I LOVE working at G&W Engineering and helping our employees and clients! One of the main reasons WHY I love my G&W team is because we all share in the belief of helping others. In fact, at G&W our Core Values are Growth, Impact, Value, Excellence and Service. These values are an acronym for GIVES, because at G&W we believe in giving back and serving others. Working with a team that shares this passion and partnering with clients that align with these core values allows me to keep my personal WHY at the center of my life… especially when I’m at the office. Great people working together will accomplish amazing things… and that’s what we are doing.
Through the support of G&W Engineering, our Client Partners, and some close friends, I have been
