Meet Shane H., G&W’s Director of Business Development. Shane received a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering at Southern Illinois University Carbondale. Although Shane’s days are anything but typical, most days he gets started by following up on emails and phone calls, while waiting for his coffee meeting to begin with a client. Shane then makes it to the office for a couple of hours to catch up with the team and talk about new opportunities. About 4 days a week he has lunch meetings or organizational events. His afternoon is a mix of working on marketing materials or proposals and happy hour meetings.
Q: What is your favorite part about working at G&W?
My favorite parts of my job include the ability to work independently (trust from leadership) & the people I worked with. It’s great to work with people that care about the company and doing an excellent job. It’s hard to find that environment today because so many people just don’t care about honesty, challenging work, & integrity. The people make G&W a fun place to work!
Q: When you are not working, what do you enjoy to do in your free time?
During my free time, I love playing with my dogs - Mongo (Great Dane) and Moose (Doberman Pincher). Taking them for walks and playing catch can always be interesting and fun. I also like to get out during the winter to duck hunt, though the seasons have been a little slow I still enjoy the time with nature and calmness before the fun.
Q: What is the one thing you couldn’t live without?
I know it’s cheesy but my wife, during all the craziness of our days she is always happy and smiling, making my day bright.… We met more than 10 years ago playing softball in Kirkwood, we have been laughing and having fun ever since.
Q: If you could do another job for just a day, what would it be?
Q: How would you define success?
To me, the definition of success is waking up in the morning with a smile on your face, knowing it's going to be a great day. I am excited about work and facing new challenges, while I feel at ease with my team and leadership who always support my work and life balance. A loving family who is always there for me…
